Welcome to the hiking Sauerland! The Rothaarsteig, the Wittgenstein-Sauerland Forest Sculpture Trail, the Sauerland Höhenflug and the Golddörfer Routes offer perfect hiking fun for everyone. Read it for yourself...
Over a length of 154 km, the Rothaarsteig leads you from Brilon in the Sauerland via the Wittgensteiner Bergland and the Siegerland to Dillenburg at the foot of the Westerwald. Its signage guarantees perfect orientation at every turn. This is ensured on the one hand by its signpost, a horizontal white R on a red background, and on the other hand by a special route guidance system which, like the idea for the Rothaarsteig itself, was developed in Schmallenberg.
From Oberkirchen, you can reach the Weg der Sinne via the Rothaarsteig feeder road (black horizontal R on a yellow background) after 4.3 km via the European long-distance hiking trail E1, which is also marked as X2 on site and merges with the WaldSkulpturenWeg in front of Schanze. The Wittgenstein-Sauerland Forest Sculpture Trail runs over the ridge of the Rothaar Mountains from Bad Berleburg to Schmallenberg. Along 23 varied kilometres, the art trail, which is unique in Germany, leads to eleven incomparable sculptures and productions by internationally renowned artists.
They polarise and stimulate discussion by addressing the ambivalent relationship between man and nature and the development of the neighbouring regions of Wittgenstein and Sauerland, which have been separated for centuries in terms of territory, language, culture and denomination. A must for all art lovers!

In addition to the Rothaarsteig and WaldSkulpturenWeg, the Sauerland Höhenflug is also recommended for your hikes. At least in stages. Because the 254 km route from Meinerzhagen or Altena in the Bergisches Land to Korbach in North Hesse leads almost without exception over extremely scenic Sauerland ridges.
Among other things, you will also pass the Oberkirchen "Hunau", which is situated quasi vis à vis. Thus the route lives up to its motto "Only flying is more beautiful" at every turn.

Alternatively, in addition to the many local circular and walking paths, we particularly recommend our romantic Gold Village routes. They connect the villages of the Schmallenberger Sauerland, which were awarded as the most beautiful spots in Germany in the national competition "Our village shall become more beautiful". This is a total of nine - a nationwide record. By the way: Oberkirchen is one of them.
You see: In terms of hiking, our house in the middle of the hiking world Schmallenberger Sauerland is an ideal starting point. No matter whether you are drawn to the Kahler Asten, the Rothaarkamm, the Hunau or via the WaldSkulpturenWeg to Wittgenstein'sche.
Detailed information and hiking maps are available at our reception, as are rental backpacks. A pick-up and delivery service is possible on request and by arrangement.
When father Frost and mother Holle rule, nature shows its most silent side.
Discover this impressive silence. Enjoy the vastness of the landscape, the bizarre hoarfrost crowns and the special light. Guess animal tracks, hear the dull crunch of snow under your boots and breathe uniquely fresh air. They do a lot of good to the head and body.
Around Oberkirchen you will find various sunny winter hiking trails close to the village, which are kept free of snow and ice by our snow clearing services. Our reception desk knows which ones are recommended during your stay. For your own safety, please wear sturdy shoes with a profiled sole.
Crampons further increase the resistance to treading, as do Nordic Walking poles.
We arrange our guided hikes according to the respective weather conditions. Gladly also with comfortable conclusion at the fire-place...
